This special web-conference on community-wide parking management strategies consists of two 90-minute webinars:

  1. Tuesday February 24, 12 noon to 1:30 PM Eastern Time
  2. Thursday February 26, 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern Time

Parking management includes various strategies that result in more efficient use of parking facilities and more sustainable transportation systems. Find out how communities across Canada are implementing innovative parking management programs to help solve transportation and parking problems, reduce costs to governments and businesses, and support strategic development objectives.

Tuesday February 24

  • Overview by Todd Litman, Victoria Transportation Planning Institute, followed by a short Q&A
  • Chris Blaschuk, City of Calgary, on cash-in-lieu policies and experiences followed by a short Q&A
  • Bob Macdonald, City of Vancouver, on parking standards and zoning requirements (both commercial and residential), unbundled parking, and bicycle parking requirements, followed by Q&A and discussion

Thursday February 26

  • Ralph Bond, BA Group, on the City of Saint John N.B.’s express bus/park and ride service, first municipal parking garage built in conjunction with a new Provincial Justice and Police complex, and research into the potential for “Green” Parking Garages. Richard Smith of the Saint John Parking Commission will also be on hand for Q&A.
  • Panel presentations: “Where do we go from here?” (five minute presentations from each panel member) Topics to be covered include: maintaining the right transportation/ parking balance in the face of future growth and approval, implementation of unbundled parking, and integration of TDM & Parking Strategies at emerging growth centre Mobility Hubs including shopping centres.
